How Anna got her groove back.

3:00 AM writing…Thank you #LittleCharles (puppy problems).

Some things are hard to let go. Whether it’s clothes in your closet that were once a favorite, bad eating habits, jobs, friendships, walking away from long time relationships, etc. What we often fail to do is ask ourselves one simple question:

Do these things make us TRULY HAPPY?

“Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy.” Robert Tew

These last couple of weeks of decluttering my house, I also found myself reflecting on people who no longer bring me joy. Yup…I said it…PEOPLE. You know the ones that bring more negative than positive vibes? No matter how hard you tried, it just wasn’t meant to be.

But the process of letting go is NOT always an easy one. In fact, it can seem very scary! You are sometimes faced to make very hard decisions that not only affects you, but your family and others. I knew this…I know this.

For me, it means taking a step back and REFLECTING. What does this person bring into my life and my family’s life?  Good and bad. Do I need to downgrade the importance of these relationships?  What can I handle? Do  I find myself smiling through friendships/relationships and simply settling? Eeeekkkkk (the grin and bear mode)!  Do I find myself out to dinner with people who bring more drama than joy? What type of energy do these people bring into my life?

A couple of years ago, my life changed completely. I swore to myself that this was finally MY time. The days of making sure that everyone else was constantly OK and happy, even when I wasn’t… were OVER (exception…my child). The days of tip toeing around other’s feelings were OVER.  The days of wondering how to act based on whether someone had a good or bad day were OVER. The days of watching people self destruct and not wanting to help themselves or accept help were over. The days of waiting on other people to simply keep their word were OVER. The days of constantly worrying over things beyond my control…were OVER.

So I freed myself. I have a few less friends, but I have TRUE friends. I smile more. I laugh more. I travel more. I put my focus on being the best ME. The best MOTHER. The best FAMILY MEMBER. The best FRIEND.

Simply…

I got my groove back and man did it feel GOOD!

There are times like these past few weeks when I find myself falling back into old habits. So I simply take a step back to reflect (coffee in hand of course).

Dear Self,

It’s me again.

DON’T  BE AFRAID TO GIVE YOURSELF EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER WANTED IN LIFE.  YOU DESERVE IT!
